Wairau Hospital, Blenheim >>
The Arthur Wicks Building at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim house the nuclear medicine division of the hospital. Following the Canterbury Earthquake Sequence, all major buildings of the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board were assessed for seismic performance. The Arthur Wicks Building met only 25 percent of the New Building Standard, and a seismic strengthening programme was sanctioned to upgrade the facility to meet the new Standards.
KGA provided screw pile design for the facility and oversaw pile testing to confirm the piles met the specified acceptance criteria. Several remediation options were proposed, and the most effective solution based on time, materials and overall performance, was decided upon.
